  • Use a soft tape measure to measure around your head where you like your hat to sit. Divide that measurement by 3.14 (π), then round up to the nearest 1/8. This is your Stormy Kromer hat size. Wool provides natural warmth while remaining breathable, making it a great choice for cool to cold weather. If you regularly spend extended time outdoors in extreme cold, consider one of our insulated styles or hats with longer earbands for additional warmth.

  • No. The Original Stormy Kromer Cap is lined with soft cotton flannel, and the sweatband is made from a comfortable polycotton blend. The wool outer shell provides warmth and durability, while the materials against your skin are designed for everyday comfort.

  • Simply slide your thumb between the earband and the cap, then pull the earband down over your ears. There's no need to untie or unfold anything. When you're ready, just pull it back up into place for the classic Stormy Kromer look.

  • For most people, the Original Stormy Kromer Cap's earband covers about one-half to two-thirds of the ear. Because everyone's head shape and ear placement are different, coverage will vary. If you're looking for more coverage or added warmth in extreme cold, Stormy Kromer also offers styles with longer earbands and additional insulation.

  • Dry cleaning is the best way to care for your Original Stormy Kromer Cap. For small spills or stains, spot cleaning is often enough. If your cap gets wet from rain or snow, let it air dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight. Never put your wool cap in the dryer, as the heat can cause it to shrink.

    My father grew up in Munising to a hunting/logging/outdoor recreation family and has been faithfully wearing Kromer hats for decades. It's almost impossible to find one he doesn't already have AND YET the blaze orange one was never spotted on his shelf, until this Christmas. In a time when so many things change so dramatically and so quickly, it's refreshing to have a few small things that faithfully retain their original design and purpose. Super comfortable, super warm, and with an enduring style that has outlasted its creators and will likely outlast us too. Not much else you can say about this hat, and not much else that needs saying.

    I have owned an original Stormy in size 7 1/8 and recently purchased the same in blaze orange and it fits very loose compared to what I already own ~~ Sorry to hear the fit isn't what you expected.     The hat is warm, breathable and brim keeps snow off my glasses. Ear flaps cover your ears to just above the ear lobes. That works fine for temps in 20's or above with wind 15 MPH or less. If it is colder or with higher wind speeds I wear a thin lightweight headband under the hat and that works well to keep your ears warm. I use the same headband under my Tilly hat in spring and fall. The hat is slightly small. I have 2 Stetsons that are 7 1/8 and have this hat in 7 1/4 and it fits fine and didn't blow off in 40 MPH wind gusts. The Adirondack plaid matches well with the charcoal mackinaw. The black/gray plaid would also match well. The charcoal hat is a lighter shade of gray. The hat is comfortable to wear for a hour or so in a store.

    Made in the USA (Michigan). Simple and practical design. Not too expensive. A hat you can be proud of - and that will last for years (and has a great warranty). If you like hats, you need one or more of these guys.
