Frequently Asked Questions

  • The Waxed Rancher Cap is water-resistant, not waterproof. Its paraffin-treated waxed cotton shell sheds rain and snow in most conditions, but because the seams aren't sealed, it's not designed for prolonged exposure to heavy rain.

  • The Waxed Rancher Cap offers warmth comparable to the Rancher Cap. Instead of Thinsulate™, it uses Lamilite® insulation in the crown along with the same extended, fleece-lined earbands.

  • Choose the Waxed Rancher Cap if you expect wet conditions. Its paraffin-treated waxed cotton shell sheds rain and wet snow while developing a distinctive weathered look over time. If you prefer the classic look and feel of wool, choose the Rancher Cap.

  • Yes. The Waxed Rancher Cap's extended earbands fully cover your ears and provide added protection at the back of the neck, making it a great choice for cold, wet, and windy conditions.

  • Use a soft tape measure to measure around your head where you like your hat to sit. Divide that measurement by 3.14 (π), then round up to the nearest 1/8. This is your Stormy Kromer hat size. If you don't have a tape measure, you can also use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler. Please remember that these hats generally do not stretch over time. If your measurement falls between sizes, or if you prefer a looser fit, we recommend sizing up.

  • Spot clean with cold water whenever possible. If needed, use a gentle castile soap. Avoid hot water, laundry detergent, and dish soap, as they can damage the waxed finish. Over time, you may need to rewax your cap to restore its water resistance. We offer wax tins for that purpose.

The quality of the hat far exceeds the price for a product made in America. No doubt that it will last a long time and keep me warm on the coldest days. The product is supported by excellent customer service. The cap arrived in a well protected box with a Thank You note that said "you have saved another American job". Just outstanding all the way around. I will not hesitate to buy here again.

This is my 4th Stormy Kromer, and each fills a unique roll. This is perfect for cutting winter wood for the stove, or coaxing a rainbow trout to rise from the stream. Great fit!

Great product! Couldn’t be happier. Came quickly and was just what I ordered. I’m not used to fitted hats and initially tried it on with tags stuffed in it. Felt tight but not overly uncomfortable but I worried about it and tried it off and on a few days. The weather recently pushed me to commit so I stripped the tags and hit the field for some dog training. I quickly forgot all about it feeling snug. Totally comfortable and secure. Worst part now is taking it off. My head gets cold. Will be my daily hat for the winter and I look forward to giving it a good workout. Thanks.

Bought this hat while in the U.P. there were no "women's" styles available (and now that I've seen them online--gak!) but this looks quite nice. When you put the flap down, if you fold over the hem it gives you a pretty contrast band. I'm liking it. There's no way to past a photo, bummer. It's warm and comfortable btw

I normally wear a 7 3/8 hat.I sized up to 7 1/2. It fits perfect. The earflaps and neckwarmer are long enough for full coverage. The hat is well built and functional.

Have not had a chance to use but by looking at it and trying it on it will most likely be a 10 star hat for using while hunting. Well put together with great materials.
