  • The Rancher Cap is our warmest traditional wool cap, built for serious winter weather. Compared with the Original Stormy Kromer Cap, it features 200-gram Thinsulate™ insulation in the crown and longer fleece-lined earbands for added warmth and coverage. When the earbands are pulled down, they fully cover your ears and extend farther down the neck.

  • Yes. The Rancher Cap's extended earbands fully cover your ears when pulled down and provide additional coverage at the back of the neck.

  • The Rancher Cap is built for people who put warmth and function first. With 200-gram Thinsulate™ insulation, fleece-lined earbands, and extended coverage, it's made for those who spend real time outdoors in the cold. Whether you're ice fishing, snow blowing, working outside, or simply refuse to let winter slow you down, the Rancher is built to keep you comfortable in harsh conditions.

  • No. The Rancher Cap is lined with soft cotton flannel, and the sweatband is made from a comfortable polycotton blend. The earbands are lined with fleece, so the wool outer shell never sits directly against your skin.

  • Use a soft tape measure to measure around your head where you like your hat to sit. Divide that measurement by 3.14 (π), then round up to the nearest 1/8. This is your Stormy Kromer hat size. If you don't have a tape measure, you can also use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler. Please remember that these hats generally do not stretch over time. If your measurement falls between sizes, or if you prefer a looser fit, we recommend sizing up.

  • Dry cleaning is the best way to care for your Rancher Cap. For small spills or stains, spot cleaning is often enough. If your cap gets wet from rain or snow, let it air dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight. Never put your wool cap in the dryer, as the heat can cause it to shrink.

    Having already purchased 5 Kromer hats I knew the workmanship would be exceptional with this Rancher cap. The insulation in the cap and the earflaps was what sold me. With the addition of the Kromer neck warmer I will be set for the bitter winds and temperatures of winter. Now, if I were caught in a nasty, life threatening blizzard, I have an all leather bomber cap with real shearling in the cap and ear flaps (like the bomber hats warn by our WWII pilots). The chances of this event are remote, so I'm a happy camper wearing this comfortable Rancher cap with confidence. I will always wear this with pride knowing Kromer is an American company. Merry Christmas to all.

    Have both the waxed cotton and wool versions and find them excellent in construction and function. RECOMMENDED! A question though: there seems no purpose to the 'flaps' (ears) tying in front above bill. Is this merely fashion, or do they somehow add to the earflap[ pull-down ?     Truly a great cap that surpasses the advertising! Thought Filson Products were great, but Stormy Kromer adds the little touches that exceeds expectations. Glad that it's made in Michigan and enjoy the note from the professional that packed the item. (Thank you, Professional Packer Dana). Quality Products and little touches keep me, (and others), coming back for three terrific hats, three neck gaiters, five COVID masks and more). Everyone I show is impressed with Ironwood quality.

    I love my Stormy Kromer caps. I have the original, Mackinaw, and rancher in several colors. The rancher really shines when the temperature drops and the wind blows. It's very warm and the insulated ear flaps are just the ticket to keep your noggin toasty! I think it looks great as well.

    Just finished the WI deer season with the Rancher Cap. Some mornings in Northern Wi were in the single digits. Cap is the warmest I’ve worn in 40 yrs of deer hunting. Ear flaps worked great while still allowing me to hear that 10 pointer sneaking through the hardwoods looking for a doe….My brother tried it one morning and ordered one for himself
