Frequently Asked Questions

  • The Rancher Cap is our warmest traditional wool cap, built for serious winter weather. Compared with the Original Stormy Kromer Cap, it features 200-gram Thinsulate™ insulation in the crown and longer fleece-lined earbands for added warmth and coverage. When the earbands are pulled down, they fully cover your ears and extend farther down the neck.

  • Yes. The Rancher Cap's extended earbands fully cover your ears when pulled down and provide additional coverage at the back of the neck.

  • The Rancher Cap is built for people who put warmth and function first. With 200-gram Thinsulate™ insulation, fleece-lined earbands, and extended coverage, it's made for those who spend real time outdoors in the cold. Whether you're ice fishing, snow blowing, working outside, or simply refuse to let winter slow you down, the Rancher is built to keep you comfortable in harsh conditions.

  • No. The Rancher Cap is lined with soft cotton flannel, and the sweatband is made from a comfortable polycotton blend. The earbands are lined with fleece, so the wool outer shell never sits directly against your skin.

  • Use a soft tape measure to measure around your head where you like your hat to sit. Divide that measurement by 3.14 (π), then round up to the nearest 1/8. This is your Stormy Kromer hat size. If you don't have a tape measure, you can also use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler. Please remember that these hats generally do not stretch over time. If your measurement falls between sizes, or if you prefer a looser fit, we recommend sizing up.

  • Dry cleaning is the best way to care for your Rancher Cap. For small spills or stains, spot cleaning is often enough. If your cap gets wet from rain or snow, let it air dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight. Never put your wool cap in the dryer, as the heat can cause it to shrink.

I own 6 SKs in 7 1/2; size ive worn since boot camp in the 90s. This rancher doesnt fit right. I had my son contact cs on the 21st. He provided the requested information, we haven't heard anything in 7 business days. I just want an exchange is all. So far this isn't how I expected this to go. Ymmv ~ Hi Luke, We're sorry you haven't received a response via email, we typically ask 24-48 hours. If you're able to give us a direct call, we can immediately assist you! SK~

Have the classic original model. Purchased this one because has much bigger ear flaps that really work when the wind blows but it keeps the original look

The ranch hat is made very well. Only issue is it is cut slightly small. I have to order a new one . I normally wear 7 3/8 , but will definitely need 7 1/2.

I have owned 3 of these in the last 35years. I ranch for a living in SD where we get lots of blowing -30 degree days in the winter. There is no better hat made for cold durable long lasting hats they have been stomped on by cows. Fallen into feedwagons and the list goes on and on. You just grab them and put them back on and get another 8-9 years of use out of them. I have never had the heart to send back my 2 beat to heck hats with there lifetime warranty because anything that can survive 10 years of abuse on a ranch and still hold up is worth gold to me. I want to thank you stormy Kromer for building something in the usa that is quality built to last in the roughest of weather and conditions you have kept my head warm for 35 years and alot of my neighbors too.Keep up the good work.

Like the hat. I thought I upsized one size because that was the recommendation but probably should have went two sizes because still a little too tight.
