Pockets can be used with stuff in them. Bought a L and XL. L was tight across the back, I measure 44.5” chest wearing a slimmer under tee shirt. XL is best. However, I don’t like how the bottom bells out. Back panel curves out at the bottom. Let’s in cold air. I wish they came 42”, 44”, 46” 48” etc. I suspect the XL is more of a 48”. I was going to take to get altered but I successfully did it myself with a needle thread. I pulled in the bottom 4” of the vertical seam. Now it’s a perfect fit. Even over a Carhartt hoodie still fits great now. It was definitely too belled out wearing a flannel shirt. My only want would be an adjustment at the waist. I like that it’s long enough for those of us that don’t tuck in a shirt because of the length I don’t button the bottom when I’m sitting in the truck. Chest pockets are very useful. I’m glad they aren’t covered with flap. The back collar area is cut so it’s good with a hoodie and good with a collared shirt. I like that the vest doesn’t have a tall collar that becomes irritating when you don’t need it. I may actually try wearing this all wool military scarf that’s been in the closet. It would allow maximum flexibility. Like other reviews, after a week of on and off wear, the wool gets softer and also more nap. It’s only going to stretch out and not shrink. Great vest. Cut at waist or a cinch would make it a slam dunk. Can’t find anything better and I’ve been looking for decades. It’s expensive yes. But nothing else I’ve had compares.

I had a Filson that I wore out and while looking to replace it, I came across this vest. I like the style and the way they did the pockets (and that it comes in black). I'm 6'4" 165#, and I found the large to be a bit generous in the midsection, so I sized down to a medium. It's a bit snug with a heavy sweater, but okay. I'm in Maine and I'm going to be wearing it pretty much October - April every year until it falls apart!

Are you the type who values quality material, craftsmanship with that touch of classic vintage style? My endless searches (Woolrich nope; LL Bean nope) stopped here at Stormy Kromer for this wool vest that embodied everything I was looking for. Look no further than here. The product arrived neatly packed. And the large size perfectly fit my 6'1", 210 lb frame perfectly. Oh and also got a cap to accompany the vest. The cap quality and attention to detail are remarkable. It grabbed my wife's attention so, that she is ordering a female cap with the $20 gift promotion card I received. All I can say is that I'm a fan because the that classic vintage style, being abandoned by the others, is available at Stomry Kromer. From now on my search starts with Stormy Kromer.

Love the feel and quality. Made in the UP. Please discontinue the leather name patch. It looks tacky, like something from a mall store; it spoils an otherwise perfect vest.

Great product. I’ve had one for years. Just needed to size up, if you know what I mean.

I've had the button vest for a couple of weeks now. It’s been worn every day and I am extremely impressed with it. The vest is made of substantial wool. It’s a bit stiff at first, but breaks in nicely and gets softer by the day. I was a bit worried at first at how tight the button holes were, but they loosen up after a few days. I am 5’ 10” and weigh 188. The large size fits exactly as I hoped. The olive color is as expected and is like the old military drab green. The vest is trim, but definitely not snug. Not sure what is meant in the description by modern fit. In my opinion, it is a classic fit for the size large. The vest fits just below belt line in front and wonderfully it is a bit longer in back to cover the tail bone. L4, L5, & S1 stay warm. The pockets are great; keys on the left, phone on the right, and neither have fallen out of the pockets when I hop in my truck. A nice touch is the pencil pocket which has been home to a mechanical pencil. The free shipping was a nice bonus and delivery worked well. I need to get another one of these.

On the plus side the material (great quality wool), craftsmanship, generous pockets and style all top notch. Our son looked fantastic in it and will wear it often. While I knew it was unlined, and is heavy enough not to need much of one, I think a light fine quality lining would have made this perfect. Aside from that, it's pretty great.

This just arrived and I like it a lot. The wool is dense and smooth-feeling, substantial. Compared to its main rival, the Filson Mackinaw vest, the wool feels softer, like its felted. I ordered a large tall. I'm 6-3, 210 and have a broad chest. I usually wear a 48L or maybe a 46L in a sportcoat. This fits closely, but not tight, with a heavy cotton flannel shirt on underneath. The extra length is great, but it would be too tight over a heavy sweater. It;s the fit I was looking for
