I haven't bought this - I was contemplating it - but I do live in NYC and can tell you a little something about what makes a good urban bag. #1: security. If you've got your cellphone and your other electronics in an outer pocket slung around your back, then some friendly urban pickpocket will kindly lighten your load. Strongly snapped pockets would help. Not zips- you might not feel a zipper open, but you'd feel a strong snap being tugged on. #2: ease of access. You need to be able to swing the bag around from back to front with one hand, remove a wallet (bc you're a girl and don't have pockets) or just hold it up to the subway sensor. Sometimes you need one hand for your drink or your book and the other hand needs to be able to get in your bag (nowhere to put a drink on the subway - and between your knees doesn't cut it with coffee on a bumpy ride). To make the one hand access work, the latch has to have a simple mechanism and the inside needs to have dividers and pockets.
Good luck! ~~~Thanks for the suggestions! SK~~~
