You really can wear a Kromer all year round. We kept the classic style of the Original, but cut it from lightweight, water-resistant 100% waxed cotton duck. When the chilly morning gives way to a sunny afternoon, just pull up the earband and you'll be comfortable all day long.

The Waxed Cotton Cap is designed for cool, wet weather—not extreme cold. It's uninsulated, making it best suited for fall, spring, and other cool, wet days. In milder climates, it may work well as a winter cap, but in colder regions it won't provide the same warmth as the Original or Rancher.

Choose the Waxed Cotton Cap when you expect wet weather and want added water resistance. Its waxed canvas shell sheds rain while developing a distinctive weathered look over time.

The Waxed Cotton Cap is water-resistant, not waterproof. Its paraffin-treated waxed cotton shell sheds rain and snow in most conditions, but because the seams aren't sealed, it's not designed for prolonged exposure to heavy rain.

Use a soft tape measure to measure around your head where you like your hat to sit. Divide that measurement by 3.14 (π), then round up to the nearest 1/8. This is your Stormy Kromer hat size. If you don't have a tape measure, you can also use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler. Please remember that these hats generally do not stretch over time. If your measurement falls between sizes, or if you prefer a looser fit, we recommend sizing up.

Simply slide your thumb between the earband and the cap, then pull the earband down over your ears. There's no need to untie or unfold anything. When you're ready, just pull it back up into place for the classic Stormy Kromer look.

Spot cleaning is the best way to care for your Waxed Cotton Cap. Cold water is often all you need, but if necessary, use a gentle castile soap. Avoid hot water, laundry detergent, and dish soap, as they can damage the waxed finish. Over time, you may need to rewax your cap to restore its water resistance. We offer wax tins specifically for that purpose.

This is my third SK. My first two both the same size are the Trail cap and a limited edition made of Harris Tweed and they fit identical and perfect!! I really like them. This waxed cotton cap is also the same size as the other two, however, the bottom edge of the cap sits lower and thus uncomfortably feels like it’s cutting into the top of my ear in the same area where some people often place a pen or pencil. The tags have already been removed, which means I’m stuck with it and basically can’t wear it. I don’t know if this particular style is supposed to fit differently, or if the cut of this particular individual cap is off but either way it’s money thrown away because I can’t wear it and I can’t return it for exchange for another of the same to see if it’s just how this style fits or the one I received was made a little off. I really like SK products but your sizing is terrible. I have 5 hats, all the same size and not one of them fits the same. This last purchase feels nearly a size bigger than my other wax cotton hat. For the cost I wish your sizing was more accurate. ~Hi Sean, I am sorry to hear you are having issues with sizing. Our caps can fit differently depending on the style. Some folks do take the same size across the board, but some do vary depending on the style. A piece of junk compared to the other 7 sks that I have poor quality wax cotton ? I own several SK hats,just received my waxed canvas smells like tar,assuming the waxing compound craftsmanship is excellent as usual.
