Frequently Asked Questions

The Waxed Cotton Cap is designed for cool, wet weather—not extreme cold. It's uninsulated, making it best suited for fall, spring, and other cool, wet days. In milder climates, it may work well as a winter cap, but in colder regions it won't provide the same warmth as the Original or Rancher.
-
Choose the Waxed Cotton Cap when you expect wet weather and want added water resistance. Its waxed canvas shell sheds rain while developing a distinctive weathered look over time.
-
The Waxed Cotton Cap is water-resistant, not waterproof. Its paraffin-treated waxed cotton shell sheds rain and snow in most conditions, but because the seams aren't sealed, it's not designed for prolonged exposure to heavy rain.

Use a soft tape measure to measure around your head where you like your hat to sit. Divide that measurement by 3.14 (π), then round up to the nearest 1/8. This is your Stormy Kromer hat size. If you don't have a tape measure, you can also use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler. Please remember that these hats generally do not stretch over time. If your measurement falls between sizes, or if you prefer a looser fit, we recommend sizing up.
-
Simply slide your thumb between the earband and the cap, then pull the earband down over your ears. There's no need to untie or unfold anything. When you're ready, just pull it back up into place for the classic Stormy Kromer look.

Spot cleaning is the best way to care for your Waxed Cotton Cap. Cold water is often all you need, but if necessary, use a gentle castile soap. Avoid hot water, laundry detergent, and dish soap, as they can damage the waxed finish. Over time, you may need to rewax your cap to restore its water resistance. We offer wax tins specifically for that purpose.

This is My third hat that I have purchased from you so far I like it very much. I have bought A blaze orange one four or five years ago that is all faded out that I am not pleased with the fading, but other than that, I still love your hats. Also bought them for my sons in this year. Talked a friend of mine into buying one other than the one fading out I am very happy.

Got for a lighter weight hat, my winters rarely get below freezing. Would like an even lighter weight ha, just canvas or cotton since summers are normally 95+. Feels good, even slightly larger than other hats, but feels good.

I like the hats. They are always nice and a conversation starter. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is that they are so tight to start out. Until they break in a little bit they can be quite snug.

I usually dislike wearing any type of hat. I am a water fowl hunter and have to cover my white hair so as not to flare the birds. I have been able to wear my new hat comfortably for most of the day in the marsh or in the boat.

I’ve always wanted to have one of these hats but was apprehensive to order one through the mail mainly because I was afraid that if I didn’t like it or that if it didn’t fit that I would be stuck with a fairly expensive hat that I couldn’t send back. I live in central Illinois and have googled retailers within a few hours for me to drive to look at and try on a hat but have only found one store (in Paducah KY) that had one of your hats for me to look at. They had two hats that were identical but they were not the waxed cotton that I was looking for. If you have any questions or comments don’t hesitate to get ahold of me of me.

Originally bought a 7 5/8 in a store near me and it fit great. After wearing it for a few weeks it stretched out and was a bit loose so i ordered a 7 1/2 and it fit great but has also stretched out more than id like but i already have a 7 3/8 which is too tight. The 7 1/2 i ordered was also stitched crooked so it doesnt tie evenly but its unique and i dont have the patience to wait for a return.

I followed measuring instructions but still ordered the wrong size. Probably my mistake. I returned the cap immediately. It was delivered last week to your facility but have not heard a word. I don’t know if the replacement order has been processed or shipped. I have no idea when it will arrive. I’m very disappointed with this process. Can someone please let me know where the replacement stands. I would appreciate. Thank you. ~ Hi Jerry, We ask 2-3 weeks for processing once we recieve the item. It does look like your exchnage was processed today, so you can expect to see that within 5-7 business days. Please reach out to our customer service team if you have any further questions. SK ~

This hat is my new go too hat. It’s comfortable, stylish, and feels great on my head.
