Frequently Asked Questions

The Mackinaw Coat has a generous fit designed for layering. Order your usual size if you plan to wear it over sweaters, flannels, or other cold-weather layers. If you prefer a trimmer, more fashion-forward fit, consider sizing down. If you are 6' or taller, you might consider our tall sizes.
-
The Mackinaw Coat is made from heavy, densely woven 26-ounce wool that naturally blocks wind, insulates, and breathes. Because it isn't insulated, warmth will vary depending on your activity level and what you wear underneath. For many people, it's one of their warmest coats. If you're looking for maximum warmth, consider our Double Mackinaw Coat, which adds a second layer of 26-ounce wool across the chest.
-
No. The Mackinaw Coat is intentionally unlined, following the design of traditional wool coats. Instead, it relies on heavy 26-ounce, 100% wool to provide warmth, breathability, and long-lasting durability.
-
Both coats are made from the same premium 26-ounce, 100% wool from American Woolen Company. The Double Mackinaw Coat features a second layer of wool across the chest for added warmth in extreme cold. If you prefer a lighter, less bulky coat with room for layering, the Mackinaw Coat is an excellent choice.
-
Yes, especially in snow. Wool can absorb up to 35% of its weight in moisture while still providing warmth, making the Mackinaw Coat an excellent choice for heavy, wet snow and cold outdoor activities like hunting, ice fishing, or snow blowing. It isn't waterproof, however, so it's not intended for prolonged exposure to heavy rain.
-
Dry cleaning is the best way to care for your Mackinaw Coat. Spot cleaning can work for small stains as needed. If the coat becomes wet, allow it to air dry away from direct heat or sunlight. Never machine dry your wool coat.

Nicely made jacket in every detail except one. The sleeves at the forearm are so snug I can barely wear a sweater under it. I wonder if this is a flaw in my jacket or the way it’s supposed to fit. I sure would like to know. It sure seem like you should have room for a substantial sweater under it.

I ordered the coat and hat. On 12/16/2017. Nothing. My Order ID # is 211071. Money was taken out of my credit card account. And I have no coat or hat. I'm very unhappy. I feel I have been taken advantage of greatly. Wilma - I am so sorry about this. Have you contacted our customer service team? It looks like for your order we were waiting on the cap to come through production, as we oversold our forecast. It shipped on 12/20 and through our normal methods should have been to you by Christmas. It looks like it had some delays but is on its way. Please contact us so we can help make this right. 888-455-2253. Here is your tracking: https://track.aftership.com/usps/9405509898642113592639

This is a great looking coat and is built very well. It totally misses the mark for warmth though. It requires the use of a quilted liner or other warm garment below it.

My charcoal Mackinaw arrived only about a week ago, so I'm sharing my initial impressions and observations after a week on non-stop wear as Minnesota descends into winter. If I remember, I'll do an update review in a few years as to its long term durability. That said, I'm very pleased with both the looks and the quality of the Stormy Kromer Mackinaw. Echoing other reviews, the stitching appears strong and consistent. I've looked it over for small inconsequential flaws, but found none. The consistency of the wool and the color are perfect. It is a quality garment through and through. It also fits me well! It's also a very comfortable coat, relatively light weight and deceptively warm. Yet it's also breathable - one of the advantages of wool. It never really occurred to me that I'd receive compliments about it, but I have. A number of folks have noticed and asked about it. I appreciated the card that came with it, personally signed by the person who inspected the coat before shipping. And I'm glad it is American made. The coat is brand new, but so far I am very pleased.

Got the mackinaw last weelk. Fit is great. Top notch sewing and assemby. Wore it once in a cold downpour and stayed nice and warm. The coat dried great while hung on a wooden hanger. You cannot go wrong buying this coat. By the way, customer service at SK is great.

So excited to tell you that I'm thoroughly happy with my purchase of the Mackinaw Coat. Superb craftsmanship, cut, style and design. Best coat I've ever purchased and knowing how much a good coat costs, this is one the best purchases you can invest in. I got an XL in olive and really so well done, the coat is perfect (and warm) for both my job and life outside work. I've received positive comments on the new coat from colleagues and constituents. Time and time again, Stormy Kromer delivers on great products and customer service. Thanks for the care everyone puts in their jobs, because it shows on all levels!
