Frequently Asked Questions

The Mackinaw Coat has a generous fit designed for layering. Order your usual size if you plan to wear it over sweaters, flannels, or other cold-weather layers. If you prefer a trimmer, more fashion-forward fit, consider sizing down. If you are 6' or taller, you might consider our tall sizes.
-
The Mackinaw Coat is made from heavy, densely woven 26-ounce wool that naturally blocks wind, insulates, and breathes. Because it isn't insulated, warmth will vary depending on your activity level and what you wear underneath. For many people, it's one of their warmest coats. If you're looking for maximum warmth, consider our Double Mackinaw Coat, which adds a second layer of 26-ounce wool across the chest.
-
No. The Mackinaw Coat is intentionally unlined, following the design of traditional wool coats. Instead, it relies on heavy 26-ounce, 100% wool to provide warmth, breathability, and long-lasting durability.
-
Both coats are made from the same premium 26-ounce, 100% wool from American Woolen Company. The Double Mackinaw Coat features a second layer of wool across the chest for added warmth in extreme cold. If you prefer a lighter, less bulky coat with room for layering, the Mackinaw Coat is an excellent choice.
-
Yes, especially in snow. Wool can absorb up to 35% of its weight in moisture while still providing warmth, making the Mackinaw Coat an excellent choice for heavy, wet snow and cold outdoor activities like hunting, ice fishing, or snow blowing. It isn't waterproof, however, so it's not intended for prolonged exposure to heavy rain.
-
Dry cleaning is the best way to care for your Mackinaw Coat. Spot cleaning can work for small stains as needed. If the coat becomes wet, allow it to air dry away from direct heat or sunlight. Never machine dry your wool coat.

Great quality. 3x tall is quite loose on hubby, he normally wears a snug 2x. This coat is not meant for cold winter days says my hot-blooded hubby. It is not lined, but rather a wool jacket weight. So long as you know this when you buy it you will enjoy it. Hubby has had comments on it wherever he wears it (with the hat).

Bought this for hubby. He thinks it is perfect! Nice tight weave keeps him warm but still a lighter weight. He wears a very heavy Carhadt on the super cold days, but this will be perfect for a more typical winter day. Roomy enough for him to fit a sweater under. High quality fabric and you can tell it is built to last.

This coat fits great and it's high quality. A true bargain at this price. I read reviews stating the sleeves were tight so I was worried. They must have fixed the issue, if there was one to begin with. Have no worry and do not hesitate to buy this Yooper made product! By the way I have several hats and the button down vest to go inside this coat. All fit great and high-quality. This company is truly a Jem. The customer service is great as well, they answered my questions quick, processed my order quick and I received the package in two day! Even during these busy holidays. Every aspect of this company is 5 star. I would absolutely love it is SK made some overall pants to go with this coat. Don't ever sell out SK.

This really isn't a coat. Just a heavier wool shirt. Not too impressed. I'm returning it.

Be warned it is huge! I am 5 foot ten and weigh about 175 with an athletic build. I bought the medium but wish they made a small. Even with a sweater I still feel like I am swimming in it. That being said it is a high quality coat, well made with a high quality wool.

Good thick tight woven wool. Almost like felt. Warm but not heavy like a canvas/lined coat. I have last years model that was purchased at the outlet. The sleeves were ok for me. After comparing prices on Eddy Bauer and others I would not have a problem paying full price. Length is better than my Woolrich coat and the wool is tighter. Great coat.
