Frequently Asked Questions

  • The Mackinaw Coat has a generous fit designed for layering. Order your usual size if you plan to wear it over sweaters, flannels, or other cold-weather layers. If you prefer a trimmer, more fashion-forward fit, consider sizing down. If you are 6' or taller, you might consider our tall sizes.

  • The Mackinaw Coat is made from heavy, densely woven 26-ounce wool that naturally blocks wind, insulates, and breathes. Because it isn't insulated, warmth will vary depending on your activity level and what you wear underneath. For many people, it's one of their warmest coats. If you're looking for maximum warmth, consider our Double Mackinaw Coat, which adds a second layer of 26-ounce wool across the chest.

  • No. The Mackinaw Coat is intentionally unlined, following the design of traditional wool coats. Instead, it relies on heavy 26-ounce, 100% wool to provide warmth, breathability, and long-lasting durability.

  • Both coats are made from the same premium 26-ounce, 100% wool from American Woolen Company. The Double Mackinaw Coat features a second layer of wool across the chest for added warmth in extreme cold. If you prefer a lighter, less bulky coat with room for layering, the Mackinaw Coat is an excellent choice.

  • Yes, especially in snow. Wool can absorb up to 35% of its weight in moisture while still providing warmth, making the Mackinaw Coat an excellent choice for heavy, wet snow and cold outdoor activities like hunting, ice fishing, or snow blowing. It isn't waterproof, however, so it's not intended for prolonged exposure to heavy rain.

  • Dry cleaning is the best way to care for your Mackinaw Coat. Spot cleaning can work for small stains as needed. If the coat becomes wet, allow it to air dry away from direct heat or sunlight. Never machine dry your wool coat.

Well, first off let me say thank you for my coat and hat. I first tried them on from a friend of mine he has been telling me about them and as soon as I tried it on I was hooked. I Immediately placed my order. I had told my girlfriend about them sent her to the website because she fell in love with the coat and hat and ended up ordering a set for herself. I am absolutely impressed with the workmanship, the feel, the warmth and the quality of the material. I have told a bunch of the guys I work with about the coat and hat and sent them to the website and they are going to purchase a set for themselves. The look, the feel, and the fit alone are well worth the money I spent. I feel it is a small price to pay for quality and keeping the money in the good old U. S. OF A. I am originally from Michigan and I always try to support Michigan businesses. The .ain selling point for me was that the coat and hat was manufactured in Michigan. I just would like to say keep up the beautiful quality work and I will continue to spread the word of how amazing your products are.

I had always wanted one of these, but did not want to spend this kind of money for a field coat. My wife made an execute decision to finally buy one when she was at the store without me, I am sure glad she did. I really like the solid construction that was made in the USA, the 100% wool material that will hold in heat even when wet and of course the comfort is great. It is roomy for me and I like the long length with big collar to turn up. I wear this coat in down to 20 degree F temp with just a long sleeve shirt on underneath. It works for me down to 0 with a base layer and sweater under it. I actually wear it everywhere now, along with my Stormy Kromer hat. Someone said the handwarmers were to high, I assumed these upper pockets were for ammunition on one side and a flask of brandy on the other, not handwarmers. I also find that it shields me well from the wind, whereas I live right on the Cook Inlet and commonly have 50+ MPH winds during the winter.

Excellent sewing and the buttons are put on heavy duty. Overall, the construction of the coat is super!!!

Fits my husband perfectly. He is 6'2" and we purchased a 2x tall. Not real heavy, but that's a plus for him, as he doesn't like a super heavy coat. Love the look!

I bought this jacket in red and black plaid because I wanted a well made wool jacket for hunting. It is very well made and very comfortable. I wish the hand warmer pockets came up on the sides like the button vest pockets do but that is the only improvement I can think of, other than that its perfect. I just wish they made this jacket in blaze orange because I'd buy one of those too for when I wanted a bit more visibility.

I purchased this because the fabric is 2 oz. heavier than the Filson version. But, I still don't find this coat to be very warm. Think closer to a fleece jacket. Not good wind stopping qualities either. Hand warmer pockets are too high to be comfortable to use. Sleeve length is unusual and like other reviewers mention, sleeves are extraordinarily tight. Based on one review that said the jacket was huge, I purchased a medium but needed to exchange for a large. 5'11" 175 lbs broad shoulders. Got the coat for a good deal so I'll keep it but probably not going to become the every day wear I was hoping it would be. ~ Sorry to hear you are not completely happy with the coat. This coat is unlined as mentioned in the description, so the wind will not be totally stopped. You can always return the coat or exchange for something else. Give our customer service team a call and they can help you out. 888-455-2253

I love this coat. Everyone sees it and complement me on it. I bought it in October and wear it as long in to spring as I can. I love the cold weather and now I’m prepared for it.
