The latch on the adjuster in the back does not hold the strap tight

Love the hat, nicely made - but size adjustment latch won’t hold at all, so I have been unable to wear it. Now after reading reviews, this seems to have been a problem with this hat’s latch for several years now. The adjusting strap on the cap is way long and on my other adjustable cap there is a pocket to tuck the extra into. No pocket on the red flannel cap and I don't what to cut off the excess.

Stiff hat. Wears and sits high on the head. No slot for the adjustable strap in back.
