What payment methods do you accept?

We accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover. You can also use PayPal.

How do I check the status of my order?

Setup an online account, and you can check the status of your order by logging in and clicking "My Account." (If you checkout as a "guest," you won't be able to check your account online.) Or, you can simply email Customer Service or call 888-455-2253.

Can I order over the phone?

Sure! Just call our friendly customer service team at 888-455-2253. They're here weekdays from 7:00 to 5:00 Central Time.

Do you accept international orders?

Yes! The totals you will see through checkout however, will be in US dollars. See our shipping section for info on international shipping options.




What are my options when it comes to shipping/rates?

Domestic Orders

  • Standard shipping is free for domestic orders over $75.
  • Domestic orders under $75 ship standard for $5.99. (Most small packages ship USPS; larger packages ship UPS.)
  • Next-Day and 2nd-Day Air are available through UPS for an additional charge.

International Orders

  • At this time, we are only able to ship to Canada.
  • International orders ship via USPS International Priority.
  • Any order shipped to a destination outside of the United States may be subject to import taxes and/or duties. As the recipient, you are the importer and must comply with all applicable laws and regulations, and are responsible for these fees.
  • Stormy Kromer charges only the merchandise and shipping charges to your credit card. Import taxes and duties are collected by the international carrier upon delivery.

    How soon will you ship my order?

    Orders with ground shipping will ship in 1-2 days. Air orders placed by 1:00 central time will ship same day. And although we'll try, items that are ordered together may not ship together.

    Can you ship to my PO Box?

    Absolutely. PO Box orders are shipped by USPS.



Returns & Exchanges

I received my order but it doesn’t fit. How do I exchange it?

Items exchanged for a different size, color or style must be in new, unworn condition with the tags still attached. Items can be exchanged within 90 days of purchase. To exchange an item, simply fill out the return form that came with your order, and indicate the replacement item you would like. Please note exchanges can take 2 to 3 weeks from leaving your door to receiving the replacement product. Send exchanges to:

Can I return my order for a refund?

You may return an item for a refund for any reason within 90 days of purchase as long as it is in new, unworn condition with the tags still attached.

Why do you sell sized caps?

Our six-panel construction paired with our custom sizes gives you a fit like no other. No adjustable straps, snaps or buckles, just pure, head-protecting comfort.

How do I figure out my cap size?

To get your size, measure around your head in the spot where a cap would rest with a soft tape measure.  Take that number in inches and divide by 3.14 (pi). Round up to the nearest eighth to get your size. See the chart below for size conversions. (Don’t have a soft tape measure? Get creative. Use a string, or a tie, or a ribbon around your head, then measure that length.)

Stormy Kromer caps are designed to be snug. This was, after all, one of George and Ida's initial design goals - to design a cap that stays put when the winter wind blows. Your cap stays put and the pulldown earband does its best work with a snugger fit. If that's an issue for you, you may want to consider going up a size.

Our Story


Yes, George “Stormy” Kromer was indeed a real person, born in 1876. George and his wife, Ida, created the first Kromer Cap in 1903 and the rest, as they say, is history. For the full story of this legendary couple and their cap, click here.  


It wasn't because of the weather, or the cap he created. Turns out George had a bit of a temper.


Stormy was born and raised in Kaukauna, Wisconsin, near Green Bay. The first factory was out of his home, but when demand for the cap from his fellow workers increased, they eventually moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin.


Bob Jacquart, CEO of Jacquart Fabric Products in Ironwood, Michigan, was told by a friend in 2000 that the Kromer Cap Company intended to stop production of its winter wool cap. Bob made a few calls, and in a month had acquired the rights to manufacture the iconic cap. For the full details on the move from Milwaukee to Ironwood, click here.


While the current factory is family-owned, it's not a part of the Kromer family. We do take our responsibility to George and Ida and their legacy seriously, and we stay in touch with quite a few members of their extended family.



Flagship Store & Factory Tours

Does Stormy Kromer have a store at the factory?

We sure do. Our Flagship Store carries the full Stormy Kromer product line from caps to coats to bags and more. The Flagship Store also carries some exclusive items, as well as factory seconds and discontinued items at reduced prices. Our Flagship Store is open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays 9:00 a.m. to noon. The Store is closed on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas and closes at noon on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.

Does Stormy Kromer offer factory tours?

Where are Stormy Kromer products made?

Now it might be cheaper to sew Stormy Kromer products overseas, but it just wouldn’t feel right. Instead, we bring in the best fabrics on earth and put them in the most talented hands in America. All our products are proudly manufactured in the Midwest - either at our home facility in Ironwood, Michigan, or a partner facility in Wisconsin. How does the earband work?

You might not need instructions to wear your Stormy Kromer masterpiece, but there is a right way and a wrong way. The right way involves putting the cap on your head, grabbing the earband on both sides and pulling down. There’s no unfolding or flipping of the flaps, and you don’t have to take the hat off to use them. Just pull down and settle in. They’ll stay in place without pinching.

They say that when you own a Stormy Kromer, no other cap will ever satisfy your taste for comfort or quality. And we believe that’s true too, so we offer what other clothing manufacturers might consider a little crazy: If your Stormy Kromer cap ever wears out, or if there is ever a problem with the cap caused by poor workmanship or faulty material, we will replace it free of charge. What is the Stormy Kromer insurance policy?

Your new cap comes with more than a comfortable fit and rugged good looks, it also features a little protection for your peace of mind. Register your Stormy Kromer cap with its unique serial number found on the white label inside your cap. If it is lost, stolen or destroyed within three years of the date of purchase, we will replace it at 50% of the current catalog price, plus applicable shipping and taxes.No questions asked. Care & Cleaning

How should I clean my wool Stormy Kromer Cap?

We don’t mean to get all fancy on you, but wool is dry-clean only. You’re a person of discriminating taste (otherwise you wouldn’t have picked up a stylish Stormy Kromer cap), so when you buy wool, you know that means special care. If you wash your cap or wool garments – even by hand – they will shrink or become misshapen. And machine washing, well, that’s just plain out of the question.

What should I do if my wool Stormy Kromer Cap gets wet?

Did you know that wool can absorb 30% of its weight in water? Our caps take on a lot of H20 before they feel damp. If it should happen to get soaked in the rain, just lay it flat (out of direct sunlight) and it will dry out just fine.

How should I clean my cotton Stormy Kromer Cap?

It’s hand-wash or spot-clean only, Stormy Kromer owners, but unless it’s badly soiled, you won’t have to clean it more than once or twice a year. When hand-washing, use a small amount of Nikwax Tech Wash or other mild detergent and rinse it thoroughly. Then smooth out the wrinkles and hang it up to dry (out of the sun and heat, please). Never use a dryer—your cap will shrink and become misshapen. Hand-washing your waxed-cotton cap may diminish its ability to repel water, so we suggest applying a waterproofing agent (try Martexin Original Wax) when needed.

What about Stormy Kromer apparel and other accessories?

Because many of our products contain wool, they are often dry clean only.  Each product is different though, so be sure to check the care instructions for each and every product.



I’m giving a gift and don’t know the recipient’s cap size. What should I do?

Gift certificates always fit! See them here. Or, take the guesswork out by giving a Stormy Kromer Carryall, Koozie, or other non-sized item.

I received a gift but I don’t have the packing list. Can I exchange it?

Sure! Exchanged items must be in new, unworn condition with the tags still attached. To exchange an item without the packing slip, simply pack it with a note stating your return address and what item, size and color you would like to replace it with. Send to:
