I grabbed this for a week long trip to London and it has been my staple travel bag ever since. It is the perfect size to use as a carry-on and the depth of the bag meant no one ever got the things I stored in it (kept on the bottom with papers or other items on top). Plus, it is large enough to lug around items purchased from a shop all day while seeing the sights. The wide opening made it easy to get items in and out when in latched and the outside pockets were perfect for keeping a bottle of water and snacks. Also, this held up wonderfully to the misty November days in England and packs easily into other luggage (if need be).

I haven't bought this - I was contemplating it - but I do live in NYC and can tell you a little something about what makes a good urban bag. #1: security. If you've got your cellphone and your other electronics in an outer pocket slung around your back, then some friendly urban pickpocket will kindly lighten your load. Strongly snapped pockets would help. Not zips- you might not feel a zipper open, but you'd feel a strong snap being tugged on. #2: ease of access. You need to be able to swing the bag around from back to front with one hand, remove a wallet (bc you're a girl and don't have pockets) or just hold it up to the subway sensor. Sometimes you need one hand for your drink or your book and the other hand needs to be able to get in your bag (nowhere to put a drink on the subway - and between your knees doesn't cut it with coffee on a bumpy ride). To make the one hand access work, the latch has to have a simple mechanism and the inside needs to have dividers and pockets. Good luck! ~~~Thanks for the suggestions! SK~~~

Have used this bag for a week, I liked the idea of a simple bag like this. Unfortunately for anyone traveling a lot this just won't cut it. None of the pockets have a snap of closure of any kind. Even with the top flap snapped in place there can be huge gaps on either side for things like eye glass cases to escape..... So, looks like I will be switching back to my old Tumi bag once I return home again and stop off for new glasses.... ~~~sorry to hear you're not satisfied with your bag. We will pass your suggestions along to our design team. If you purchased directly from Stormy Kromer, we'd be happy to refund your money or exchange it for another style. ~SK

It would be AWESOME if this had an outside pocket to fit the Stanley 2 qt thermos, or even the one qt. Now that's an idea. -Jeff

I bought this bag from a store in Minneapolis. I use it for work a lot. It fits my laptop, cord and work papers, books easily. Great material. the more it wears, the better it looks. Great if you need a bag to carry things but don't want to feel like you're in highschool with a ton of extra compartments and pockets. What's there fits most everything a person carries on them daily. -Greg Applekamp

needs outside pockets like the old knapsacks , one on either side big enough to hold a thermos, all in the beauty of worn tan paraffin canvas with leather straps, like in the forties you got the Hat right, i know you can make a great knapsack -rusty nail
