I bought a factory seconds flannel shirt in Chestnut for my father in their outlet store. The tag said there was a "rough cuff". The flaw was so inconspicuous and difficult to identify that I am surprised it was even considered a factory seconds shirt. Upon returning home, I washed the shirt and re-inspected the cuff. There was no change in the material. From reading some of these other reviews of this shirt, I had expected it might unravel or fray with washing, but that was not the case at all. My father was thrilled to have an American made shirt and was impressed with the quality! Some of these other reviews are concerned with a few loose threads? Get over yourselves! When have you ever purchase any piece of clothing, either American made or imported, and didn't need to cut off a couple odd threads? If I have to cut a couple threads to support American jobs, then I will always choose American manufacturing!

I was the number one fan of Stormy Kromer flannel shirts. I owned two of them before buying my most recent shirt. I thought they were, hands down, the finest flannel shirts on the market. When I purchased Isle Royal Shirt recently, paying almost double I had paid for the previous two shirts, (shirts I paid full price for), I waited with great expectation. I was sorely disappointed! What happened to the two pockets, each with a flap and each having two buttons? Now just one pocket with a single button? What happened to the elbow pads? What happened to the second buttons on the cuffs? Yes, it still fits great and the material is just as good and the colors are great, and it comes with a spare button that the previous shirts did not, but it really hurts to pay $100 for a shirt that just isn't as good as it used to be when we didn't pay as much for them. ~~ We loved our previous style flannel shirts as well...but we discontinued them because the cost to make them in the USA was getting very high. We brought them back, with less detail so we could keep the price competitive with other brand flannel shirts of the same quality. SK ~~

The fabric and design is great (Chestnut is stunning), but as another reviewer mentioned, the buttonholes were unfinished and had loose threads throughout. I don't know much about sewing so I assumed they were just some stray uncut thread, but it seems like a thread was stitched in two spots in each button hole without actually finishing the buttonhole. I would have overlooked this but for the fact that the buttonholes did not actually hold the buttons and allowed the buttons to slip out. This was happening without putting any pressure on the shirt, the buttons simply would slide out as the unfinished holes seemed to flex too easily. The rest of the stitching and seams looked OK to me. I gave it to my mother, a retired seamstress from Michigan, to fix the buttonholes and she informed me that the shirt , in her opinion, was poorly constructed and would never have passed inspection in her shop. I think that was a bit harsh because the shirt was great and I got a lot of compliments. Still, I had an uneasy feeling for a shirt that wasn't cheap from a company that prides itself on American craftsmanship. I know that shirts are not the core business, so I will probably watch the reviews and stick to the hats for now, which are extremely well made and of course, the most stylish and awesome thing you could put on your head to keep it warm. ~~~ Sorry to hear about the button issue with your Flannel Shirt. I will pass this along to our quality people. Quality and your satisfaction are very important to us. Please give us a call and we'll make this right. 888-455-2253 ~SK ~~~

I received my flannel shirt yesterday and was immediately taken by it. Material was nice, fit was excellent and construction, with exception of several loose threads and some concern for the button holes seemed more than adequate. I thought to order another shirt in Gray/Black but first thought I should give it a wash and check on shrinkage. I threw it in the wash by itself on delicate cycle with cold water, then removed it and let it hang dry. Things were looking good until I noticed a two inch area of seam on a sleeve had unraveled and begun to fray. Not the end of the world but not what you expect from a shirt as costly as this. So, I recommend it you order one of these shirts to give it a thorough inspection when you receive it BEFORE you wear and wash it. Hopefully if there’s a problem you’ll discover it in time to return it. I just may order another but only because I have a good seamstress in the house that can make it right should it be necessary. On a brighter note, the Flat Top Wool hat I received at the same time is awesome.... thanks! ~~~ Sorry you had an issue with your Flannel Shirt. Awesome flannel! I bought this for my boyfriend as a gift and I could not be happier. Quality material and it looks great just working in the yard or going to the brewery! Love SK!

Good quality flannel. While I agree that two pockets with flaps is much preferred, I bought this shirt knowing that it only had the single pocket with no flap. So no dings for that. The shirt I received was missing the upper sleeve button. No thread in the location or anything, just plain missing. Aggravating, but is it worth returning to have a button sewn on? After one wash the thread just keeps coming, the threads just keep coming out. I own a dozen other flannels and have not had this issue. I should probably send it back. But it is a pain. So I will just keep putting the buttons back on and get it fixed when the hems come undone. Flannel is nice and looks like it is quality fabric, but I've only washed it once so far.

I bought a grey/black plaid shirt about 3yrs ago which is the best and finest quality shirt. It has TWO front pockets and the stitching is very well done.My wife biught me the green/black plaid for Christmas and it has just one front pocket and the quality of stiching at the seams, cuffs and button holes is noticeably decreased. -stormylntz65

Great shirt, but please put two pockets back on it. It looks much better with the two pockets, and with flaps would be even better. -Toby

One of my biggest pet peeves is seeing unmatched prints, stripes and plaids on a shirt. It seems so lazy! Especially on higher end garments. Not even the slightest effort to match the plaids on the opposite side from armpit to waist. The opposite seam (from armpit down) is accurately sewn and I believe that it must have been the starting point. The locker loop is also not matched up properly with the fabric design and looks out of place. I can see why people cut costs by not matching plaids. It costs extra to match your seams. It uses more fabric, requires special markers, and increases the time spent on sewing the shirt. While the fabric is beautiful, I feel that this shirt is only half as good as what it could have been. I'll just disguise the problem under a vest. One piece of unsolicited advice is that I'd allow for half an inch to three quarters of an inch extra in the sleeve width to reduce wear on the elbow bends past 90 degrees. I've worn out elbows like this before.Too snug when moving hand to shoulder. Just my personal preference. -Phillip

Quality, Doesn't shrink. But in the past two years or so, Stormy Kromer have gone from 2 pockets with double button flaps, to only one button. Now they have gone to only one pocket with no flaps. Please make them like you used to. -Brian

I can't help thinking of the hunky Brawny man when I see this shirt. It fits well, true to size and very warm. My husband is very picky and he loves this shirt. We live on a farm and it is one of his layers when he works outside in the winter. I just bought it because i liked the style and look of it...I had no idea how much he would like it. We BOTH really love it is made in the USA and this is how I found this website. I decided to by only USA products and found this site. Good quality and worth the little extra money to keep it local. -mom of twins
