- Working onboard a Great Lakes freighter gets really cold in the winter, both inside the wheelhouse and outside on deck. My Kromer cap is part of my required winter gear and I wear it during almost every watch in the wheelhouse, its better than wearing a knit watch cap. Also, its a good hat to get off the ship and hit the town in. Overall, best $40 I've spent.
